Families & Children

Our church is blessed with a vibrant family and children’s community, where faith and fun go hand in hand. From Sunday School and school visits to creative storytelling sessions and family events, we offer spaces where children can explore, learn, and belong. Below you’ll find the many ways families and young people are part of life at All Saints’.

Orton C of E Primary School:

All Saints’ Church has a warm and active partnership with Orton C of E Primary School. Members of our congregation serve as school governors and volunteer in school life, including reading with children.

The school holds special services in church, such as the Leavers’ Service and Harvest Service, and classes visit regularly to learn about Christianity and explore the building. Children especially enjoy visiting the ringing chamber and trying out bell-ringing.

We also support Open the Book, a joint Anglican–Methodist team who bring Bible stories to school assemblies through drama and costumes.

For younger families, Charlie’s Church runs twice a term, offering simple stories, crafts, treasure hunts, and a friendly welcome for pre-school children.

Open The Book

A joint Anglican and Methodist team presents Bible stories in schools assemblies (including Tebay and Shap schools), with drama and costume, and involving the children in various ways.

Charlie's Church

This happens twice a term, for the youngest and pre-school children, telling bible stories with the help of puppet Charlie, crafts, often a treasure hunt, and always a snack. If you have pre-school children, you will be very welcome to come and share in these events! Look out for posters around the village.

Class Visits

Class visits to church happen regularly, to enrich the curriculum with different aspects of religion and church life; it always includes visiting the ringing chamber in the tower to have a go at bell-ringing.

Families Together in Tebay and Orton

A joint team of Anglicans and Methodists from Orton and Tebay, who plan and organise a wide variety of events to attract all ages of people beyond the usual worshippers – e.g. visits to a farm, community sports day, Harvest Hoedown, Advent Party, “Experiencing Easter” – egg hunt, crafts, and exploring the Easter story in and around our churches.

Come along to an event! We run an event in either Orton or Tebay about once a term, do come along to one and see what we get up to. They do not cost anything, but if you want to support us financially that’s a real help To do that follow this link.

Village Sunday School

Our Village Sunday School runs during the 10:30am Sunday Service at the Methodist Church, offering a fun and engaging space for children aged 5 to 15. Children stay in church for the first part of the service before heading to their own group for around 30 minutes of age-appropriate activities, stories, and discussions. It’s a relaxed and welcoming environment where young people can learn, grow in faith, and enjoy being together.
