Celebrating community, creativity, and connection throughout the year. At All Saints’ Church, Orton, our calendar is full of opportunities to come together, whether to enjoy good company, celebrate local talent, or mark the special seasons of the year. From lively coffee mornings to candlelit carol services, every event reflects the heart of our church: community, hospitality, and joy.
Good coffee, homemade bakes, and great company. Held on the second Saturday of every month, our Farmers’ Market Coffee Mornings bring locals and visitors together from far and wide in the warm, welcoming setting of the church. Enjoy comforting tea and coffee, homemade scones and cakes, and take time to browse the stalls of second-hand books and bric-a-brac. It’s a simple but much-loved tradition, a place to chat with friends, meet new faces, and feel the heartbeat of village life.
A stage for local talent and visiting musicians. Music fills our church throughout the year, with performances by visiting choirs, ensembles, and talented local groups. One highlight, “Much Ado About Music”, showcases a joyful mix of choral pieces, instrumental performances, and light entertainment, a community concert full of creativity and laughter. Whether it’s a string quartet echoing through the arches or a festive choir lifting spirits, these concerts remind us how music connects us all.
A celebration of creativity and community spirit. Each year around Whitsun, the church transforms into an imaginative exhibition space for a 9-day event designed, built, and curated by a team of local people with remarkable creativity and flair. Every year brings a new theme, inspiring visitors and volunteers alike, in 2024, it was “Little and Large.” The 2025 theme was "Celebrations of the Church Year", and 2026 is to be "Noah's Ark". With refreshments served throughout and hundreds of visitors passing through, the exhibition is one of Orton’s most anticipated annual events and a key fundraiser for the church.
A feast of gratitude and community. Every autumn, around 80 local residents gather in the village Market Hall for our much-loved Harvest Supper; an evening of delicious food, laughter, and friendship. Organised by a team of church and community volunteers, the event is generously supported by the Westmorland Family, who donate the sliced ham each year. Each supper raises money for charity, in 2025, donations will support Derian House Children’s Hospice, helping to bring care and comfort to children and families.
Christmas at All Saints’ Church is a time when the whole village comes together in joy and reflection. The church glows with warmth and welcome throughout the festive season.
Our Christmas Tree Festival transforms the church into a magical display of lights and colour. Local businesses, groups, and organisations each decorate a tree that reflects their work or purpose, creating a stunning celebration of community creativity.
A joyful family service filled with carols, storytelling, and symbolism, Christingle is especially loved by children. Together, we light Christingle oranges, representing the light of Christ, and raise donations for The Children’s Society.
One of the most cherished services of the year, Carols by Candlelight brings together a united choir of singers from around eight local churches. With over a hundred worshippers filling the church, it’s a moving evening of music, candlelight, and shared celebration.
On Christmas Eve at 11:30 p.m., our Midnight Communion service offers a peaceful and reflective moment to welcome Christmas Day. The service alternates each year between Orton, Tebay, and Ravenstonedale churches, inviting everyone to share in the stillness and beauty of the night.
