Community Life at All Saints

Our church is enriched by the people who give their time, kindness, and energy to support village life. Community involvement takes many forms, from quiet acts of service to shared gatherings and local partnerships. Below you’ll find the different ways our community connects, contributes, and grows together.

Local People Helping Local Church Life

So much of what happens at All Saints’ is made possible by the generosity of local residents, many of whom are not regular worshippers but value their village church and help in practical ways. This everyday support keeps the church warm, welcoming, and well cared for.

How you can get involved...

Cleaning & Brass Polishing:

Volunteers help keep the church spotless and lovingly cared for.

Flower Donations & Arranging:

Fresh flowers are placed each week by a small rota of talented arrangers.

Grass Cutting in the New Churchyard:

A group of volunteers ensures the grounds are tidy and peaceful for visitors.

Opening & Closing the Church:

A key rota keeps the church open every day, including managing the security posts.

Churchyard Care Team:

Dedicated volunteers maintain “God’s Acre” as a beautiful and respectful resting place.

Coffee Morning & Event Support:

From baking scones to washing up, many help run our monthly coffee mornings and the annual Exhibition.

These acts of service create the friendly atmosphere that makes All Saints’ a true community church.

Coast to Coast Walk

Orton sits close to the iconic Coast to Coast Walk, and All Saints’ is a popular stopping point for walkers travelling between St Bees and Robin Hood’s Bay. Many visitors take a moment to wander inside the church, read the displays, or enjoy the peace of the building.

How Walkers Engage
  • Sign the Visitors’ Book with comments from across the world

  • Light a candle for personal reflection or prayer

  • Leave prayers on the Prayer Cross, which we include in Sunday prayers

  • Explore the church’s history and quiet spaces

Whether seeking rest, reflection, or curiosity, walkers are always welcome.
